The Colorado Oil and Gas Association is a group that helps foster the development of oil and gas resources in Colorado in a safe and responsible way. They work to ensure the oil and gas companies have their rights while still protecting the safety and health of the public, along with protecting wildlife and the environment. For the last five and a half years, Tisha Schuller was in charge of COGA. She recently stepped down from her post, with Dan Haley named as her replacement.
Who Is Dan Haley?
Many in Denver probably know his name. He was the former editorial page editor at The Denver Post. Before becoming the president and CEO of COGA, he worked at EIS solutions. He was the vice president of communications, development, and strategy. He also worked at CoBank, which offers lending to many organizations in rural parts of the United States. Schuller released a statement that reads, “Dan is the right person for the job. He’s got the strategic vision, grace under pressure, and willingness to adapt that this job requires.”
COGA has a large number of members – more than 300 – across the state. They include large corporations and small operators in the oil and gas industry. Haley promises to do his best to represent the industry as best possible. He released a statement that read, “We will continue to build upon COGA’s many successes, continue to reach out to Coloradans across the state and, when necessary, fight for an industry that’s so important to Colorado.”
COGA believes in the concept of responsible development. The association realizes just how important the industry is for the state, and they want it to run as smoothly as possible. They want companies to be able to drill. However, they are committed to the prevention of waste, the protection of mineral owners’ rights, and the prevention of negative impacts on the environment, as well as efficient and safe exploration and production.
While Haley is new to the job, most feel he is highly qualified and will be able to help both the oil and gas companies that are in Colorado and that want to come into the state, as well as preserving the safety of those who call it home. It will be interesting to see how he handles the transition to this field and what he can bring to the table.
